Introduce yourself
Hi, I’m Josh. I’ve spent 17 years in marketing, mostly in tech, and I’m known for leading marketing functions that genuinely move the needle on growth and recurring revenue. My focus as a CMO is always on improving business profitability and delivering meaningful commercial outcomes.
What’s your role at Relait and what do you do?
I’m Relait’s CMO. As a fractional executive, my role is to lead the marketing function and deliver measurable value for the business - helping drive the kind of growth Marty and Jase are aiming for. A big part of that is communicating the value of Relait’s product and positioning it as a must-have tool for ASX-listed companies that want to deliver investor relations with the polish and professionalism of a large enterprise, but without the added headcount.
What draws you to Relait?
I first logged onto the internet back in the ’90s and still remember how magical it felt. I made some of my closest lifelong friends on IRC, early internet forums, and through multiplayer games - that’s how much of an impact the early internet had on me. Turning that curiosity into a career, and being part of the tech startup community, is something I never take for granted.
I’ve watched a lot of startup ideas come and go, and I’ve been part of some truly great ones too. Over time, you start to recognise the difference between an interesting idea and one that genuinely has legs.
Why Startups?
I love working in startups. It’s chaos. There’s always that sense of uncertainty: will we still be around next week? Who knows. But that’s what makes it exciting. Everyone on the team has to have this drive and probably an insane desire to be there. It’s all about the people on the team.
How did you end up here on the team?
When I first met Marty to talk about Relait, I went through my usual process – digging (subtly, I imagine) into what the project’s about, what it does, and where it’s heading. It didn’t take long to see that Relait is solving a real problem, already has a strong user base, and is delivering genuine value to clients. Those are all the signs a marketer looks for in an early-stage startup. Anyone in tech knows the difference between a product searching for a problem and one that’s already solving one - and Relait is definitely the latter.
What’s the most exciting thing about Relait?
I’ve always been drawn to products that do one thing exceptionally well - the ones that quietly become part of your everyday life, and you’d be lost without them. That’s what Relait is. It helps small to mid-sized ASX-listed companies scale their Investor Relations function so they can deliver top-tier investor relations, without needing the same headcount as a large enterprise.
It’s a niche product, but for the companies using it, it’s essential - they literally couldn’t do what they do without it. And that’s what makes it so exciting to be part of.
What’s a product that’d suck to lose?
Waze, hands down. It’s the first app I install on a new phone and easily the best of the navigation bunch. The UI and UX are spot on, and the GOAT for speed camera detection. What I really love, though, is that it never takes itself too seriously - it’s cheeky, fun, and full of clever little gamification touches. I’ll be genuinely sad if Google ever decides to fold it into Maps.
